Dermatosis papulosa nigra (DPN) papules on an African American womans face. This condition is characterised by the presence of benign (non-cancerous) pigmented papules on the face and neck that increase in number with age. It is most common in people with darker skin, and more common in females than males. The cause is not known, although many patients will have a family history of the condition. No treatment is needed. The papules may be removed for cosmetic reasons, however, removal can lead to scarring and uneven pigmentation.
