Experiment showing the effect of reduced pressure on a deflated balloon. The balloon contains a small amount of air at atmospheric pressure. The glass vessel is connected to a pump, and a pressure gauge. When air is extracted using the pump, which is seen on the gauge, the balloon inflates. This is because the air it contains is at higher pressure than the air in the vessel. When the valve is released and the air in the vessel returns to normal atmospheric pressure, the balloon returns to its deflated state.
