Waves simulation. Animation of two waves passing each other, demonstrating the principles of superposition and constructive and destructive interference. When the two positive wave fronts meet, the result is a doubling of the wave height. Similarly, when the two wave troughs combine, the result is a doubling of the depth of the trough. When the waves reflect off the container boundary, the same thing happens in reverse. The two waves are in phase, and the result is known as constructive interference. If they were out of phase, the result would be destructive interference (the waves would cancel each other out).
