Cryogenic equipment at CERN. The particle accelerators in the Large Hadron Collider require superconducting magnets to accelerate the protons, and the magnets must be cooled with liquid helium to maintain a temperature low enough for superconductivity. The magnets in the LHC operate at a temperature of 1.9 Kelvin around _271 degrees Celsius.
