Vinegaroon Mastigoproctus giganteus scurries past camera. These arachnids are a type of whip scorpion related to scorpions and get their name from the vinegar_like mist they spray from the glands near the end of their abdomen when alarmed. Like all arachnids, they have eight legs, but the front legs resemble antennae, which no arachnids possess. They are found in tropical and subtropical areas worldwide, including the southern U.S. and Mexico.
