Grass spider Agelenopsis sp., sometimes referred to as a funnel weaver, attacks ant that has fallen into spider磗 web in Arizona. While the ant is badly injured it can still inflict a nasty bite, so the spider is careful to keep its distance before attempting to wrap the ant in silk. Grass spiders are common throughout the U.S. and build non_symmetrical sheet webs typically found in meadows and fields. The spider hides in a silk funnel attached to one edge of the web from which it can race out to attack prey.
