Very Large Telescope VLT mount and mirror moving during preparations for a night of observation. The VLT, operated by the European Southern Observatory, is sited on Cerro Paranal, in Chile. It consists of four 8.2_metre_diameter mirror telescopes, which can be used independently or have their views combined to increase resolving power, a technique called interferometry.
