Volcanic gas bubbles rising from the seabed at Champagne Reef, Dominica, in the Caribbean Sea. The area is volcanically active, and the bubbles contain carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide and other gases. This acidifies the water, making it unfavourable for coral growth.
