Ice flow in Antarctica. These animations show the transportation of ice throughout Antarctica as measured by satellite data. Glacial flow rate is colour_coded, from pale orange slowest, at less than 1.5 metres per year through yellow, green and blue to magenta and red fastest, over one kilometre per year. The fastest flows are seen where the glaciers meet the ice shelves at the coast. These data were gathered by satellites from the Canadian Space agency, the Japanese Space Agency and the European Space Agency, and pieced together by NASA scientists. The observations provide a better understanding of the flow of Antarctica磗 ice sheets, how they might respond to climate change in the future, and how that could contribute to sea level change.
