Martian hemispheres. Animation with alpha channel of a rolling and rotating planet Mars. The animation starts in the western hemisphere, looking down on the vast canyons of Valles Marineris, with the Olympus Mons volcano at upper left, and the three Tharsis Montes volcanoes between the two. The planet then rolls north while also rotating from west to east, halting briefly over the ice of the Martian southern polar region. The rolling then reverses, with the view passing north over the planet磗 eastern hemisphere which includes Hellas Planitia the Hellas Impact Basin. The animation ends over the Martian northern polar region. The data is from Mars Global Surveyor MGS instruments: topography from the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter MOLA and surface colour from the Mars Orbiter Camera MOC.
