Viking ruins revealing the imprints of defensive walls and longhouses. This site, at Trelleborg in Zealand, Denmark, is a unique construction. It consisted of a fortified circle whose walls are seen here, containing sixteen longhouses in four groups of four. Outside the circle was a group of fifteen further longhouses in an arc, pointing towards the centre of the circle. It is thought it was built around 980 AD.
