Leaf scorpionfish Taenianotus triacanthus on the seabed. This fish has shape, colour and texture resembling a leaf, or the coral and sponges common in its habitat, and it sways in currents to simulate an immobile plant or animal. It uses this cryptic colouration to hide from predators and prey. If a prey item, such as a small fish or crustacean, passes nearby, it engulfs it with a sudden gulp. The leaf scorpionfish is found in tropical seas with coral reefs throughout the Indo_Pacific region. Filmed in Palau.
