Adult honeybee (Apis mellifera) emerging from honeycomb cell in hive. It is greeted by other adults and then is fed by one of them. New adults are identical to others except for their lighter color and inability to sting. This one will be hard at work in a short time dedicating itself to the well being of the hive. Honeybees undergo complete metamorphosis, a process which includes four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult, the latter emerging from a honeycomb cell.
