Cytoplasmic streaming. Real-time differential interference contrast microscopy footage of cytoplasmic streaming and movement of organelles in plant cells. These are onion bulb scale epidermis cells. This is a view of two cells and their nuclei (round) and cell walls. The cytoplasmic streaming is seen in both cells. Cytoplasmic streaming, or cyclosis, is the mechanism by which general transport and solute movement takes place within cells. This two-way process is aided by the actin protein microfilaments of the cell's cytoskeleton.
