Yellow garden orb weaver spider (Argiope sp.) sitting at center of its web eating fly it has just caught. The white, zig-zag patterns near the center of the web are the stabilimentum, the purpose of which is not definitely known. The bodies of these spiders can reach more than 25 mm across and can be found throughout much of the southeastern U.S. and elsewhere.
