Timelapse footage of the aurora borealis, or northern lights, above a traditional Sami village near Kiruna in Lapland, northern Sweden. Sami people, the natives of Lapland in the Arctic region of northern Scandinavian, have long cultural connections with the northern lights, which dominate the sky of these high latitude areas many nights of the year. Aurorae are produced by the collision of high-energy charged particles, carried from the Sun by the solar wind, with atoms and molecules in the Earth's upper atmosphere.
