Eastern bark centipede (Hemiscolopendra marginata), waving its antennae before it, scurries across log. Centipedes belong to the arthropod phylum and possess dozens and even hundreds of legs. There are over 8,000 species found throughout the world and many are capable of inflicting painful bites. This beautiful blue species is found in the southeastern U.S. and can reach 8 cm in length.
