Cytoplasmic streaming. Real-time differential interference contrast microscopy footage of cytoplasmic streaming and movement of organelles in plant cells. This is a hair cell from a stamen of a Tradescantia (spiderwort) plant. Cytoplasmic streaming, or cyclosis, is the mechanism by which general transport and solute movement takes place within cells. This two-way process is aided by the actin protein microfilaments of the cell's cytoskeleton.
