Close up of harvestman (Phalangium opilio), or daddy long legs, as it moves its mouthparts, consisting of a pair of pedipalps which are appendages that are used for grasping food and which are located on either side of its chelicerae which are used for piercing. With eight legs, harvestman are often confused with spiders but they belong to a separate order of arachnids. Unlike spiders, their two main body parts (abdomen and cephalothorax) are joined, not separate. They are also unable to produce silk or venom. Also, unlike spiders which typically have eight eyes, harvestmen have only a single pair and a few species are blind. This species is found throughout Europe, Asia, North America, North Africa, and New Zealand.
