Trans-rectal ultrasound (TRUS) guided prostate needle biopsy. The external position of the rectal probe is shown alongside the ultrasound image on-screen. The ultrasound is used to locate areas of the prostate to be biopsied with the biopsy gun needle. Cores (thin cylinders of tissue) from different regions of the prostate will be extracted and examined to determine the extent of any cancer.
