Summit of Mount Damavand at sunrise. Located in the Alborz mountains in Northern Iran, 70 kilometres north-east of Tehran, Damavand is the highest peak in the Middle East. It scales 5610 metres. Whilst it has active fumaroles on its flanks and many thermal springs, Damavand is a dormant volcano. Damavand has been a legendary and sacred mountain in Persian culture.
