Excision of tissue during a hepatectomy (surgical resection of the liver). Excess blood is removed with a suction device. In this case, a secondary hepatic deposit from a previously removed colonic cancer is being excised. Hepatectomy is used to remove benign or malignant neoplasm (abnormal tissue growth) in the liver, malignant neoplasms commonly being metastases of colorectal cancers.
