Metal displacement reaction. Zinc foil being dipped in a solution of copper sulphate. This is an oxidation reduction reaction, where the elemental zinc is oxidised to form a Zn2+ cation and the Cu+ cation is reduced to form elemental copper, seen as a blackish precipitate on the foil. This clip is also available with the chemical equation for the reaction overlaid. See clip K004 3410.
