Reduction of copper (II) oxide using carbon. Clip 6 of 6. This a close-up of the results of a reaction between copper (II) oxide (CuO) and carbon (C) after being heated. The reaction reduces the oxide to copper metal (Cu), with the other product being carbon dioxide (CO2). The oxide and carbon are black, while the copper metal has a reddish-orange colour.
