Timelapse footage of a surprise aurora on the night of 24th April 2012, easily visible as far south as Rapid City, South Dakota, USA. The aurora borealis is normally seen much further north than this - Rapid City is at a latitude of 44 degrees North. Auroral displays this far south are herald the coming solar maximum in 2013, the period when the sun is most active.
