Timelapse footage of developing thunderclouds, topped with smooth pileus clouds. The pileus are the wispy horizontal clouds on top of the rapidly-developing towers of cumulus cloud. Pileus form when intense updrafts push nearly saturated air layers upwards, causing them to condense. They are indicative of strong convection, and hence a powerful storm. Filmed in Colorado, USA, in summer.
