Goethite mineral. Goethite is a hydrous iron oxide mineral (Fe.O.OH), formed in soils or other low-temperature environments. Since prehistoric times, goethite has been used as a pigment and as an iron ore (source of iron). It occurs in various colours and forms such as globular aggregates, pinnacles or stalactites. Its crystal system is orthorhombic.
