Haematite. This iron oxide (Fe2O3) mineral ore is seen in its betryoidal (grape-like) form called 'kidney ore'. Here it is black, although haematite's colour can vary from black to red to steel grey. It is a common and widely distributed mineral and it is a major ore of iron.
