Sahara Desert to Kazakhstan. Timelapse video of the Earth from space, taken by the crew of Expedition 40 on board the International Space Station (ISS). This clip starts in the Sahara, over the plateaus and sand seas of the Libyan Desert, moving north-east and passing over Benghazi on Libya's Mediterranean coast. The view then passes over Crete and Turkey and Cyprus, continuing over the Black Sea, the Caucasus region (including Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan), and the Caspian Sea, before passing over Kazakhstan. The end of the clip shows three large lakes in eastern Kazakhstan: first Lake Balqash, then the smaller Lake Zaysan, and Lake Alakol in the final frame. At left is the ISS's Canadarm2 robotic arm. This clip was taken during the daylight period of the ISS orbit that occurred between 09:00 and 09:45 GMT on 27 June 2014.
