Shiveluch volcano lava dome. Time-lapse footage of a lava dome on Shiveluch volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East. This footage shows slow growth of the lava dome with incandescent rockfalls as glowing lava crumbles from the dome and falls down its flank. Shiveluch is a stratovolcano, rising to an elevation of 3307 metres. It is the northernmost active volcano on Kamchatka. It is also the largest active andesitic volcano in Kamchatka, with a volume of about 1000 cubic kilometres. It is known for effusive eruptions building lava domes which are accompanied by occasional powerful explosions or dome failures which generate huge pyroclastic flows. Footage obtained in October 2013.
