Hydrating anhydrous copper (II) sulphate (white) by dripping water. The blue colour of copper (II) sulphate is due to the presence of so-called water of crystallisation in the crystal structure. Dripping water onto the anhydrous form rehydrates the compound, giving the blue colour.
