Allspice. Allspice berries on leaves, for use in food preparation. Both the berries and the leaves are from the plant Pimenta dioica. Unripe berries are harvested, dried and then used as a flavouring agent. They are used whole in pickles, or they are ground into a powder and form one of the constituents of curry powder. Allspice berries contain eugenol, an aromatic essential oil also found in cloves.
