Dandelion seed dispersal (Taraxacum sp.). Seeds from a dandelion seed head being dispersed by the wind. Each individual seed is attached to the base of a feathery parachute known as a pappus. The fine hairs of the pappus allow the seed to be lifted from the seed head and carried a long distance by the wind. When the dispersed seed hits an object, the parachute drops off and the seed germinates where it lands.
