Graphic granite rock. Granite is an intrusive igneous rock, formed when volcanic magma solidifies under pressure deep in the Earth's crust. This sample shows the pattern characteristic of granite where the two components, quartz and feldspar, solidified simultaneously from magma. It is known as graphic granite because of the repetitive texture that can resemble writing or hieroglyphs.
