MODEL RELEASED. Neonatal examination. Stethoscope being used by a doctor to listen to a newborn baby boy's beating heart. A stethoscope is used to listen to sounds within the body. The doctor has placed the diaphragm side of the stethoscope attachment over the baby's heart. This diaphragm side is used to listen to low-pitched sounds. The sound of the baby's beating heart is transmitted through the tube to earpieces in the doctor's ears. This will allow the doctor to detect disorders such as an irregular heartbeat, or heart valve abnormalities. This is part a range of standard checks carried out soon after birth.
