Sheepshanks telescope at the Cambridge University Observatory, England. Also known as the 12.5-inch telescope, this is a coude telescope on an equatorial mount. It was built by the telescope manufacturers Grubb, and installed in 1898. It is a refractor telescope, with the light designed to enter the telescope barrel and then be refracted upwards towards the observer inside the building at upper right. It is named the Sheepshank telescope after the British astronomer Richard Sheepshank (1794-1855), who worked at Cambridge University, and his sister, Anne, who set up a legacy in his memory. This legacy was used to purchase this telescope.
