This telescope is located at Owens Valley in California, USA. It weighs 240 tonnes, is nearly as tall as a ten-storey building, and has a dish with a 25 metre (82 feet) diameter. This telescope obtains measurements of centimetre long radio wavelengths. The VLBA is a network consisting of ten identical antennae such as this one, located at stations from Hawaii to the Virgin Islands. The VLBA network simulates a giant telescope by combining the data obtained by each individual telescope.
