Owens Valley VLBA radio telescope. Man stands on the dish antenna of a radio telescope which forms part of the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) network. This telescope is located at Owens Valley in California, USA. It weighs 240 tonnes, is nearly as tall as a ten-storey building, and has a dish with a 25 metre (82 feet) diameter. This telescope obtains measurements of centimetre long radio wavelengths. The VLBA is a network consisting of ten identical antennae such as this one, located at stations from Hawaii to the Virgin Islands. The VLBA network simulates a giant telescope by combining the data obtained by each individual telescope.
