Martian crater. Coloured satellite image of an impact crater on Mars. The crater basin contains dark material which is thought to be the remnants of the impacted asteroid and exposed basaltic rock. The upper left wall of the crater and rim show areas of dark ejecta material. Image obtained by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) on 19th July 2009. The width of this image is roughly one kilometre across.
