Pears (Pyrus communis), historical artwork. These are 'Bezy de Chaumontel' pears, a cultivar of the European pear. It is a dessert pear, and was discovered around 1685, growing in the garden of the Chateau Chaumontel, in France. A flower of this tree is at upper left, and one of the pears has been halved to show the seeds (pips), three of which are at lower left. Artwork from a book published in 1768.
