Victoria Falls and gorge, GeoEye-1 satellite image. North is at top. This 1700-metre-wide waterfall (also called Mosi-oa-Tunya, Smoke That Thunders, spray across top) is on the border between Zimbabwe (left) and Zambia (right). It forms as the Zambezi River falls into a 100-metre-deep chasm. The zig-zag canyon (bottom) was eroded from the rock by the waterfall as it retreated to its current position. The Victoria Falls Bridge (1905) is at centre right, with the Victoria Falls Power Station (1938) at lower right. Image obtained on 7 July 2009. The US-operated GeoEye-1 satellite is the world's highest resolution commercial Earth-imaging satellite.
