MODEL RELEASED. Glaciology research. Glaciologist preparing to use a hot-water drill to create 20- metre-deep holes in the ice during a seismic investigation of the Antarctic Ice Sheet. Explosive charges will be placed in the holes and the echoes of the resulting blasts used to determine the conditions beneath the 2000-metre- thick ice sheet. The equipment is loaded on sledges pulled by a Bombardier skidoo. The glaciologist is from the British Antarctic Survey, a group that carries out scientific research in the Antarctic.
