Southerham Fridge mountain, Lewes, Sussex, United Kingdom. Southerham fridge mountain. 70,000 refridgerators awaiting recycling, stored in old chalk quarry near Lewes Sussex, in piles 20 high. They are 'chewed' up by a 2.5 million pound machine built by German SEG. The 'Fridge Eater' chews 15 per hour, the backs with the CFCs are removed before the rest is processed and placed in sacks. The sacks hold the remains of 100 recycled fridges.
