Waterpocket Fold at sunset, Capitol Reef National Park, Utah. A narrow shaft of sunlight shines on distant cliff faces. Erosion reveals sedimentary layers left from multiple eras when this area was under water. Nearly 10,000 feet of sedimentary rocks are exposed in and around Capitol Reef. The rock layers exposed in the park range in age from approximately 270 to 65 million years old.
