Indigo. Computer graphic of a molecule of the dye indigo (C16.H10.N2.O2). The atoms (tubes) of the molecule are colour-coded: carbon (yellow), oxygen (red), hydrogen (white) and nitrogen (blue). An oxidised form of indigo (indigo blue) is used as a blue dye. Indigo, which used to be extracted from the leaves of a plant, is now manufactured synthetically.
