Baobab tree (Adansonia digitata). The baobab tree can grow to heights of around thirty metres. It thrives in arid scrubland due to its large trunk that stores water. The fibrous bark of the baobab can be up to 15cm thick and is used to make rope. The baobab shown here is one of the two largest specimens in the world. Photographed in Duiwelskloof near Tzaneen in South Africa.
