Poppies. Several flowering shirley poppies, Papaver rhoeas. Poppies are widely cultivated as ornamental flowers. There are numerous varieties, some of which have different shades of red, white, pink or orange petals. Poppies produce bright flowers in order to attract pollinating insects. The shirley poppy is a garden variety of the common field poppy. Also seen (at centre right & upper left) are unopened flower buds.
