Pollinated poppy (image 3 of 3). Formation of a seed capsule (or seed head) in a shirley poppy (Papaver rhoeas). Here the red petals and yellow anthers have dropped back and will eventually fall, leaving the capsule (green). The capsule will then ripen, after which mature seeds will released by as the capsule dries out and splits. The seeds will then be dispersed by the wind. The shirley poppy is a garden variety of the common field poppy. See photo B786/582 for an image of the flower before pollination. For an image of the flower after pollination see photo B786/583.
