Hippocrates was born and lived on the Greek island of Kos during the Golden Age of Classical Greece. His approach to medicine was rational, scientific and clearly separated from religion. Hippocratic ideas included cleanliness, moderation in eating and drinking, and letting nature take its course. His code of ethical conduct forms the basis of the Hippocratic oath taken by doctors today. Hippocrates is also remembered for discovering the painkilling drug aspirin, which he found in willow tree bark. Bust in Florence, Italy."
