Light microscope. This piece of equipment is used to magnify the image of an object. The objective lenses (centre) are just above the specimen table, or stage. An electrical light source directs light up through the specimen and into one of the objective lenses. The clips on the stage hold the specimen in place, while the objective lenses are mounted on a swivel mechanism that allows the magnification to be changed. The image is focused using a focusing wheel and viewed through a viewing lens (both not shown).
