Separation of siamese twins. Dr Eugene-Louis Doyen separating siamese twins that are joined at the chest. These female twins, named Radica and Doodica, but better known as the Hindoo twins, were born in 1888 in Orissa, India. In 1902, whilst being exhibited in Europe, Doodica developed tuberculosis. In an attempt to save Radica's life, Doyen separated the twins. Although the operation was at first considered a success, Doodica died shortly after the separation. Radica died in 1903 after contracting tuberculosis. Photographed in Paris, France, in 1902.
